The rebirth of a Liberty-style gem with contemporary design.
In the heart of the historic Scuderie De Montel, just a few steps from San Siro Stadium, stands De Montel – Terme Milano, the largest urban thermal park in Europe. Originally designed in the 1920s, the former stables have been meticulously restored under the supervision of the heritage authorities, preserving decorative friezes, capitals, laminated wood, metal-clad roofs, and refined Liberty-style details.
The architectural project: a meeting of past and future
Architecture firms Marzorati and J+S led the redevelopment, coordinating a multidisciplinary team of architects, restorers, and engineers, supported by spa consultancy firm bb_spa Group. Contemporary interiors blend seamlessly with the historic structure: large glass surfaces, modular spaces, and visual pathways enhance the tree-lined courtyards, creating a fluid experience that balances monumentality and comfort.
Internally supported self-bearing steel structures ensure structural lightness without altering the original façades. Fully eco-friendly materials and sustainable strategies — including rainwater recovery, photovoltaic panels, and the planting of 3,500 new trees — reflect a strong environmental commitment.
Stylish interiors and state-of-the-art equipment
The interior design, curated by THDP in collaboration with Terme & SPA Italia and Terme di Saturnia, includes relaxation areas, saunas, hammams, and a refined bistro spread across 6,000 m² of indoor space, complemented by 10,000 m² of outdoor areas.
Ten thermal pools, designed and built by Myrtha Pools, with water temperatures ranging from 22 to 38°C and a daily capacity of up to 700 guests, form the core of the wellness experience.
Innovative Water Paths: Design and Wellness in the Thermal Pools
Some of the thermal pools feature immersive water paths where Aquamotus and Velum by Aquaform enhance the wellness experience with innovative solutions and elegant design.
Entering these pools offers an immediate sense of rejuvenation: Aquamotus gently distributes water in a fine mist, simulating a delicate rainfall.
Velum, on the other hand, delivers a continuous water flow along the pool's perimeter wall, recreating the effect of a refreshing waterfall, with a visual and tactile impact designed to promote physical well-being.
The atmosphere is completed by a scent diffusion system with natural essences and an audio installation reproducing the sound of rainfall — elements that together foster deep relaxation, improve breathing, and support overall mind-body balance. Thanks to these Aquaform solutions, De Montel Terme Milano offers a unique sensory journey where design and functionality come together to elevate comfort and guest pleasure.
