Heritage restoration and hospitality
The Wellness Resort & Hotel De Valkenberg is the result of a meticulous restoration of a historic complex immersed in the Dutch countryside. It stands as a compelling example of how existing heritage buildings can be transformed into hospitality venues dedicated to wellbeing.
The architecture preserves the original character of the site, featuring traditional volumes, pitched roofs, and materials that pay homage to local tradition, while the interiors have been repurposed to house modern hospitality and SPA functions.
The interior design follows an elegant, classical direction, characterized by refined furnishings, rich fabrics, and decorations that evoke the atmosphere of historic European estates. Guest rooms and common areas are designed to convey comfort and serenity, creating an environment that perfectly aligns with the wellness experience offered by the resort.
Far from a minimalist contemporary hotel, it is a property with a strong identity, where the heritage atmosphere is an integral part of the stay.
The Location
The resort is nestled within the natural landscape of the Veluwe region, one of the most significant green areas in the Netherlands. Woodlands, nature trails, and open landscapes surround the property, defining the very character of the destination.
Here, nature is more than just a backdrop; it is an integral part of the stay and the wellness journey, reinforcing the essence of relaxation, silence, and a true escape from the daily routine.
The Wellness Area
The heart of the resort is the wellness area, designed as a journey through water, heat, and relaxation.
The SPA features a variety of saunas, indoor pools, whirlpools, relaxation areas, and dedicated treatment rooms. Each space is engineered to provide a comprehensive experience, allowing guests to seamlessly transition between thermal environments, water activities, and rest.
The layout of the wellness center revolves around the water features, which serve as the focal point of the SPA. Arranged around these central elements are the saunas, emotional showers, relaxation zones, and treatment areas, creating a well-structured and intuitive wellness path for guests to enjoy.
The Saunas
A particularly compelling feature of the wellness journey is the presence of some saunas detached from the main building and completely immersed in nature.
These small structures, accessible via outdoor paths through the greenery, make the sauna experience even more evocative, offering a sense of seclusion from the main SPA areas.
Stepping out of the sauna and finding oneself in the open air, surrounded by silence and trees, completely transforms the perception of wellbeing and the relationship with the landscape.
Aquamotus by AquaformThe treatment area features Aquamotus, the horizontal shower by Aquaform used for massages and under-the-rain rituals. Representing the evolution of the traditional Vichy shower,
Aquamotus allows for treatments using automatic programs that combine water jets, varying temperatures, and massage sequences, or sessions assisted by a therapist.
During the treatment, the guest lies on the table while the therapist performs manual massages and body treatments, enhanced by the benefit of warm water flowing over the body to promote muscle relaxation. This approach makes the treatment more effective and immersive than a traditional massage, as it combines manual touch with the therapeutic benefits of water.
Aquamotus thus enables the SPA to offer various types of rituals, including relaxing, draining, or energizing treatments, broadening the facility's service menu and creating comprehensive wellness experiences. For the resort, it also represents an operational advantage, allowing them to provide innovative, high-quality treatments that elevate the overall guest experience.
